HIP OPENERS
In yoga it is said that hip openers are the gateway to emotion. In fact, it is common for people to experience an emotional release practicing deep hip openers. Physiologically people tend to carry a lot of tension in their hips and releasing this tension can have multiple benefits including reduced hip and back pain as well as improved breathing.
PIGEON POSE
CATEGORY - Hip opener
LEVEL - 1/2
CORE QUALITIES - Peaceful heart. Tranquility (with head down), Receptivity.
MODIFICATIONS -
If the hip of the front leg is off the ground place a blanket or block under for support.
This is a deep hip opener. People with tight hips, back or leg muscles may be more comfortable starting with Figure Four below.

MODIFICATIONS -
Practice in a chair for added comfort and ease getting in and out.
Practice without holding the back of the leg with the top foot on a wall, a chair or a yoga block so hands and shoulders can be relaxed.
